Having great pictures is not only dependent on the camera or the photographer alone. Photoshop also plays a part in the final outcome of the pictures. There are certain effects that could not be done through the camera alone. There are also finishing touches that you can get through photo edits. But for beginners, Photoshop is quite difficult to handle. Due to the number of enhancements you can make, many people become confuse on how to use it. To help you start with Photoshop techniques. Here are a few Photoshop tips you can do.

  1. Using the Blur function. This function could help you put more focus on the important part of your picture. You could use this to blur the background of your picture and put an emphasis on your subject. Sometimes, you could also use the blur function for the whole image. There are pictures that are too sharp and blurring them would soften the image to make it look better.
  2. Blur and overlay. This would help your picture look more vibrant. The first thing you need to do is to duplicate your photo. Blur the image in the first layer. Don’t worry if it seems that your picture is not visible anymore, you will change this in a while. After you have blurred the first layer, choose the overlay setting. You would observe that your image is now clear again. There is also a great improvement in the color of your photo.
  3. Edit the background. There are many things you can do with the background of your photo. To be able to edit them, you should first duplicate your photo. After you have done this, you should successfully select your subject. You could do this with the lasso tool. Sometimes, it needs some practice for you to be able to control the tools. After you have selected your subject, select the feather tool so that the edge of your subject would not be that sharp. After you do this, select the layer below your subject and start to modify it. You can do this by using different filters. You could experiment with the different filters to see which of them fits best. You will end up with a clear picture of your subject and a modified background.
  4. Remove blemishes. There is a tool in Photoshop that will help you make your skin look more flawless and radiant. If you have blemishes or pimples, you could easily remove them using a tool. The content aware tool in Photoshop can help you remove the pimple on your cheek without being obvious. This tool will remove the pimple and replace it with the color of your skin. The picture would appear that you do not have any pimple at all. You could also do this with other blemishes. Just be sure not to overdo it because it might look weird.
  5. Change the edges of the photo. You can choose to have a torn edged photo for a great look. To do this, you first need to edit the canvas size so that you will have something to work with.  Now select the first layer and use the eraser tool. Select the rough round bristle and start erasing the edges. Now duplicate this layer. The new layer would be called layer 1 copy. Remove the visibility of this layer. Once you do that, you can now work on layer 1. Choose color overlay and use the color gray and add and an inner glow effect. You should now be seeing a picture that looks like a piece of paper with torn edges. Add an additional drop shadow effect. The next thing you need to do is to turn on the visibility of the first layer. You could use the eraser tool once again to reveal the second layer. Now you have a torn edged picture. This would make the picture look old.
